What Is the NextGen Bar Exam?

The NextGen Bar Exam launches in July 2026, replacing the Uniform Bar Examination (UBE). Developed by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE), it's a 9-hour, 1.5-day exam covering 8 foundational subjects: Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Criminal Law, Evidence, Real Property, Torts, and Business Associations.

Unlike the old UBE, the NextGen exam is entirely multiple-choice — no essays, no performance tests. It introduces two question formats: standalone MCQs (including “select 2 of 6” questions) and Integrated Question Sets (IQS), where you answer 4–6 questions based on a shared document library. IQS account for roughly 30% of the exam.

BarPrep is purpose-built for this new format. Every question in the app mirrors the exact question types you'll see on exam day — including the select-2-of-6 MCQs and IQS with document libraries that no other prep tool currently offers.
